Cablevision’s Kids Day Clowns Around at 2003 Hampton Classic Horse Show

Bridgehampton, NY—August 30, 2003—Cablevision’s Kids Day provided an entire day of fun and activities for the whole family at the 28th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show.

Catering to the young people who attend the Hampton Classic Horse Show, the Eighth Annual Cablevision’s Kids Day offered no shortage of games and attractions. Youngsters spent time at the World of the Horse™ Exhibition Tent and Show Yard area right behind the main Grandstands. A big hit was Llamaland, which featured goats and alpacas, too, Millstone Farm's Miniature Horses and several unusual breeds of horses.

Double-Bar-D petting zoo was also on hand to introduce kids to the formerly abandoned creatures that they have lovingly rescued, including rabbits and even a pot bellied pig. Following free pony rides, the Kids-Teaching-Kids Pony Care Program allowed children to get interactive and learn that a lot of work goes into having a pony. Additional educational projects included a special presentation on the contributions made by Companion Dogs.

Hands-on circus acts with the National Circus Project were a huge hit - face painting, balloon sculpting, plate spinning, juggling, stilt walkers, and Alcazar the Magician all added to a fun-filled day. Kids were also encouraged to enter the Classic's free drawings for great prizes donated by Cablevision and many of the Classic's other sponsors and boutique vendors.

The Kids Day exhibition also featured a Child Life swing-set, complete with four swings, a rock climbing wall, trapeze, and crows nest fort, supplied by Walpole Woodworkers. Kids were also invited to relax in Cotton Candy Manor house by Lilliput – a child-size replica of an elegant East End manor house, also supplied by Walpole.

In an educational walking tour, children could follow life-sized Junior Kroll figures around the grounds to see riders, horses, grooms, veterinarians, ferriers and many of the other people who bring the horse show to life in action as they went about their daily business.

For kids competing at the Hampton Classic, equestrian events included the $2,500 Children's Jumper Classic and the $2,500 Pony Hunter Classic, both for junior riders under the age of 18. The main events in the Grand Prix Ring included the $10,000 CK Equitation Championship for riders 21 and under, and the $15,000 W.G.H.R. Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic. All ages enjoyed watching the $25,000 Sally Hansen Grand Prix.

After opening in spectacular style on Sunday, August 24, with Manhattan Mortgage Company’s Opening Day, presented by Distinction Magazine, the horse show grounds in Bridgehampton, New York, have been alive with activity. Thursday, August 28 was Seniors Day, Presented by 50 Plus Senior News, while Friday brought the third annual Fiesta Day, Presented by Hoy, in a tribute to the Greater New York Hispanic and Latino community. The Hampton Classic Horse Show culminates in ‘Super Sunday’ on August 31. Amid the flurry of social action, the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix takes center stage at 2 p.m. in the grand prix ring.

Six show rings, plus vendors, restaurants, and the children’s area are operating throughout the week. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload, with children under 6 admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Grand Prix Sunday, August 31, is $15 per person (in addition to $5/person or $15/carload admission) or $25 per person in the special Premium Seating center sections. Parking is free throughout the show week.
