EFI COACH EDUCATION COURSES SCHEDULED FOR AUTUMN

Both Introductory and Level 1 EFI Coaching Courses have been announced for September and October of 2001, and already demand for places is high.

Alison Corbally, newly-appointed EFI Coaching Development Manager, says: <<Early booking on these courses is essential as the demand is very strong, due to the cancellation of some spring courses due to Foot and Mouth disease. These courses are planned throughout the country, so venues should be convenient for the majority of participants.>>

The Introduction to Coaching course, Alison explains, is a one day course that introduces the principles of coaching through both practical and classroom based activities. Participants receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the course.

"However," says Alison, "it should be noted that at this stage a participant is not a qualified coach and must at all time operate under the supervision of at least a Level 1 Assistant coach."

The Level 1 course is the first of the EFI¹s four-tier ladder structure from Level 1 to Level 4. The duration is 40 hours and the course covers the essential areas necessary to work competently as an EFI Assistant Coach at Novice level, with an emphasis on skill development, participation and enjoyment.

The first part of Level 1 is a two-day course to be held in October and November of this year and the second part of Level 1 will take place in February and March 2002.

"The intervening time allows participants to complete the required 20 coaching sessions and the resulting log book together with a First Aid certificate, " says Alison Corbally. "This is a very comprehensive course and Assistant Coaches receive a Level 1 certificate on completion of the course, and can then progress to Level 2 "

Potential coaches must be at least 18 years of age, and have a sound knowledge of horses and horsemanship. They must have one or more of the following qualifications: BHS AI, Irish Pony Club B test, AIRC Grade III, or British Equestrian Tourism Ride Leader. The EFI strongly recommends that participants who feel they may not be up to date with adult learning principles, should attend an EFI Introduction to Coaching, prior to joining The EFI Level One course.
