Munster
Championships to go ahead
The
Munster Committee of the Show Jumping Association of Ireland last
night (Monday, Sept 2) decided it had no option but to proceed with
this Saturday's Munster Championships Finals.
The
committee had been requested to postpone the showcase after it emerged
it clashed with a similar event in Connacht.
Munster
Committee chairperson, Joan Keane said: "We considered the
request, but felt we had to proceed due to the lack of alternative
dates. It is regretful this situation has arisen, but we were left
with no choice."
The
championships, which will be held in Cahir, boast a prize-fund of
17,000 euro and have attracted the top riders from every county
in the province, including six-times national champion Francis Connors
and European pony bronze medallist Anthony Condon.
The
feature classes of the event will be the Kedrah House Stud five-year-old
final and Sherry Fitzgerald six-year-old final, both with prize-funds
of 3,000 euro. Horses in these classes will join the hundreds of
others who have qualified for the championships throughout the summer
as riders converge on the Tipperary town for what promises to be
a day of top-class showjumping.
