Show Jumping Final - Lennon Moves To Third After First Round
Ireland's
Dermott Lennon, riding the Irish-bred mare, Liscalgot, moved from
6th to 3rd position overall in the show jumping individual ranking
after the first round of today's (Saturday) competition at the World
Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, racking up just four faults on
a very strong course.
The
second round, which will determine the Top Four riders for tomorrow's
final, takes place at 7 pm Irish time today.
Ireland
had three riders in the World's Top 25 today - Lennon, Peter Charles
and Kevin Babington - all of whom incurred only four faults each
in the first round. But because Lennon came into today's penultimate
competition in overall 6th, his chance of making the cut for the
Top Four seems best at the moment.
Ireland's
fourth team rider, Cian O'Connor, is out of the individual competition
after a freak fall in the Nations Cup competition on Thursday, which
forced his retirement.
There
were only two clear rounds in today's first round - Eric Navet of
France and Gianni Govoni of Italy - and just nine four-faulters,
three of which were Irish.
