U.S.
Book Festival Welcomes Canadian Children's Author
RENO,
NV Nikki Tate appeared at the sixth annual Great Basin Book
Festival in Reno Saturday along with 24 other authors from around
the world. Held at the picturesque Wingfield Park in downtown Reno,
the Festival featured book readings, signings and performances by
authors of a variety of genres.
Nikki,
author of 11 novels for children, participated in a panel discussion
which included Nigerian childrens writer Slade Njoku. Along
with two other panelists, they explored the writing process, characters
and settings as they apply to childrens literature. Nikki
spoke to young aspiring writers at the Teen Tent, and then demonstrated
her considerable acting skills as she assumed the persona of King
Arthurs chamber maid to deliver an energetic monologue at
the Amphitheatre.
Fans,
both young and old, took the opportunity to meet Nikki at the signing
tent where she autographed her books and talked about her Pony Express
adventures of the previous two weeks. She recounted her adventures
of riding parts of the Pony Express trail in Nevada and visiting
elementary schools across the State, talking to students about the
historical events that inspired her latest novel, Jos Triumph
(Orca Book Publishers).
Before
returning to her home on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada,
Nikki is travelling the west coast of California, talking with students
and appearing at book signings in various locations.
