European Medallists Battle It Out For Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Championship Title

Two members of Britain's Bronze Medal winning team at this year's European Dressage Championships will be meeting each other head-on at this year's Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Championships. Newcomer Nicola McGivern, on what is currently one of Britain's most exciting dressage horses, Active Walero, will be riding against Hickstead team-mate, Olympic veteran and previous National Champion, Emile Faurie. The winner of this year's title will drive away in a Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class Roadster sports car.

Other significant competitors for the all important title of the 2003 Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Champion are likely to include Carl Hester, who has won more national titles than any other rider, and the current Champion, Nicky Barrett. "I've had a fantastic year as the Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Champion," says Nicky "And I'm really hoping to be the person who drives away in that lovely SLK again this year!"

Following the British team's stunning success at the European Dressage Championships and the exciting news that Britain has now qualified for the Athens Olympics next year, the atmosphere at this year's Championships is expected to be electric by the time Sunday's Championship Final comes round.

This is the third consecutive year that Mercedes-Benz has sponsored the National Dressage Championships and once again the luxury car company will be providing this year's National Champion with the use of an SLK-Class Roadster for a year. Jim Lindsay from Mercedes-Benz commented; "We are looking forward to a very exciting National Championships this year as spirits in the sport are very high after the amazing success the team had at Hickstead. Mercedes-Benz is proud to continue its support of such a successful sport for Britain."

The Mercedes-Benz National Dressage Championships 2003 will take place at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, from Thursday, September 25th to Sunday, September 28th. In addition to title sponsorship, the company will also sponsor the Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Freestyle Championships, the final class of the event that decides the title of National Champion.
