Harrisburg, PAOctober 16, 2001Rhian Davies of Annville, PA won the $5,000 North American League (NAL) Childrens Jumper Finals riding her horse Gambit in a nail-biting jump-off at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show on Tuesday. Davies was thrilled with her victory. I am totally psyched, said Davies. I just wanted to have fun out there and we did, he was great. Nine riders went clean in the first round to make for an exciting jump-off. The course was set at 36 39 and was full of turns that took precious time. When it was Gambits turn, there were already two double clears, so time was the determining factor. Davies and trainer Jerre Frankhouser worked out a strategy of tight turns and speed that shaved off several seconds and thrilled the crowd. We had a strategy from the beginning, said Davies. I watched a few riders and thats when I got a little nervous, but we went over the course several times and I just did what we planned. Davies and Gambit are both 17 years of age and have competed together for two years, but Davies is looking forward to another winning season. The North American League (NAL) runs season long series in six hunter-jumper divisions Childrens Hunter, Childrens Jumper, Adult Hunter, Adult Jumper, Pony Jumper and Open Jumper Speed. Each series culminates with a championship final at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA in October. Riders need not be members of the NAL to compete in any qualifying classes, but only current members earn points toward year-end finals.
