Carey
Takes Fourth In Grand Prix, Third In Leading Rider |
Though
they finished 3rd and 5th respectively in the Nations Cup outings,
Ireland's squad at both Zagreb and Athens managed to hold on to
enough points to get the country through to the 2003 Super League,
and also clocked up an impressive tally of individual wins.
Last
night (Sunday) Lt. Shane Carey was awarded Third in the Athens Leading
Rider table, and also managed to finish Fourth in the Athens Grand
Prix.
Capt.
Gerry Flynn opened the batting at Athens on Thursday (October 3)
with a win the Poseidon Stakes, with Lt. Shane Carey on Laughton's
Lass in Third, while on the same day squad member Paul O'Shea took
his second ever international win on Liffey Valley in the Parthenon
Cup.
Gerry
Flynn came back on Saturday to win the Philippos Classic speed class,
with Lt. Shane Carey slotting into second on Laughton's Lass. Laughton's
Lass moved up a gear on Sunday to take First in the Hercules Speed
Challenge with Carey on board, and last night lowered just one pole
in the Grand Prix, to take Fourth.
The
full squad at Athens was Lt. Shane Carey, Capt. Gerry Flynn, Cian
O'Connor, Lt. David O'Brien, and Paul O'Shea.
