IRELAND WINS TORONTO NATIONS CUP

THREE-IN-A-ROW VICTORIES MAKE SPORTING HISTORY

IRELAND¹S SHOWJUMPING TEAM tonight (Saturday November 10) made sporting history by winning the prestigious Nations Cup at Toronto. This follows the Nations Cup victory in Washington (October 28) and the Nations Cup win at Calgary (September 9).

No Irish team has ever beaten the crack North American teams on their home ground three times in a row. It is also the first Nations Cup ever won by Ireland at Toronto.

The FINAL result was:
1) IRELAND
Kevin Babington: Carling King Faults 0/0
Capt. Gerry Flynn: Carraig Dubh Faults 5/0
Cian O¹Connor: Waterford Crystal Faults 0/0
Robert Splaine: Coolcorron Cool Diamond Faults 8/- (did not need to jump in second round)
Total 5 Faults

3) CANADA
Total 9 Faults

4) MEXICO
29 Faults

The result puts Ireland up from Fifth to Fourth Place in the Samsung Nations Cup leaderboard for 2001/2002.
The current rankings after Toronto are
1) Belgium 20 points
2) Germany 18 points
3) Switzerland 11 points
4) Ireland 10 points
5) Italy 10 points (earned over larger number of shows)
