Outdoor Rug Guide And Advice
|
Looking
to buy an outdoor rug for your horse or pony?
Help
is on hand with the new BETA Rug guide.
BETA,
(the British Equestrian Trade Association), represents most of the
UK's equestrian manufacturers, distributors and retailers, and aims
to raise standards of supply, retail and safety.
The
association has re-launched its leaflet 'Guide to Purchasing your
Outdoor Rug' which is full of valuable advice for horse owners and
riders, and covers all aspects to consider when buying a rug for
your horse or pony.
There
are many different types of rugs manufactured to suit a variety
of purposes, and choosing the correct one for your horse's needs
can become quite difficult.
A
glossary of terms is included in this updated publication, to give
you an indication of what particular purpose a rug is intended for,
as well as a comprehensive section on 'How to buy the right size'.
Fit
is all important, as a rug will not stay in place unless it fits
properly, and a badly fitting rug will slip and be strained to breaking
point, also because horses come in a variety of shapes and sizes,
it may be necessary to look at several different makes or styles,
as some may fit better than others.
Once
you have the right size, it is important to fit and fasten the rug
correctly, using leg straps and/or cross surcingles in order to
keep the rug in position and to avoid causing rubbing and sore areas.
The
leaflet also explains the best methods of maintaining your rug,
including tips for cleaning, repairing and reproofing, along with
guidelines on what to do in the event of a problem.
BETA
Chief Executive, Claire Williams says: " We have updated the
leaflet to help horse owners and riders know exactly what to look
for when purchasing a rug, and to provide them with valuable information."
Leaflet
available from all stockists who are retail members of BETA.
