27th November will mark the grand opening night of the first Belfast
Indoor International Horse Show in association with Envirocare,
which opens its doors at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast for a four-day
run. Its the show that critics thought could never happen
in Belfast but it's here and it's all systems go for seven performances
of show jumping thrills, spills and pure entertainment all under
one roof.
Belfast Indoor International Horse Show will feature world famous
displays that are guaranteed to entertain.
SEVEN PERFORMANCES
There will be seven performances over the four days, with matinee
performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and evening performance
each night. Each performance is made up of exciting show jumping
and internationally acclaimed equestrian displays.
SCHOOLS DAY
Friday (28th November) afternoons performance has been allocated
to schools, with special rates of £7.50 per person. We
want to do everything we can to encourage children and young people
to take an interest in show jumping and equestrian events generally,
said Mrs McKenna. One performance dedicated to schools in
and around Belfast seemed to be a good way of doing it.
TOP CLASS ENTRY
Irish riders invited to contest the £210,000 in prize money
are previous European champions Peter Charles and Jessica Kurten,
along with fellow competitors Cian OConnor, Billy Twomey,
Harry Marshall, Conor Swail, Lynda Courtney Cadam and leading Irish
Young Rider Ryan Crumley. Among the six other nations who have confirmed
riders are Great Britain, Germany, France and Switzerland, contributing
stars which include John and Robert Whitaker, Nick Skelton and world
number one Markus Fuchs.
CLASSES
Classes include a Puissance competition, Six Bar, Newsletter Equestrian
Life Knockout, Crumley Construction Accumulator, Wilsons Auctions
Speed Stakes and the closing Envirocare International Grand Prix.
Even the serious show jumping side has some lighter moments. Martel
Grand National winning rider Barry Gerrity, with previous winner
Paul Carberry with of the moment Johnny Murtagh, will be among the
jockeys pairing with show jumping stars for the Odyssey Jockey Chase
Pairs Relay on Friday.
· Jean-Francois Pignon, who will use eight un-harnessed horses
over the four days to demonstrate his unique bond with them and
their trust in him
· The Devils Horsemen - the stunt team of Gerard, Daniel
and Camilla Naprouss amazing mixture of Latin dancing and
daring stunt riding
· The Flying Frenchmen: French heartthrobs who claim to jump
better than horses!
· The Irish Shetland Grand National Racing fit Shetland ponies
are no more than 107cms high but will take their tiny riders at
about 20 mph over 2ft 4ins brush fences - this is an event not to
be missed.
