Olympic Stars Of The Future Apply For World Class Start and
Potential
|
The
British Equestrian Federation's (BEF) appeal for talented young
riders to take part in selections for the 2003 World Class Start
and Potential Programmes (WCS&P) received 450 applications of
superb quality. The exciting process of selecting the very best
of these "stars of the future" now begins.
Riders
who are chosen to go through to the next round of selections will
be contacted early in January and invited to attend a final selection
trials. An elite panel of selectors are now confirmed, the selectors
are very excited about this opportunity to assess this gifted group
of riders.
Victoria
Kind, World Class Start and Potential Manager, said; "The response
has been wonderful. We are so impressed by the time and effort applicants
have put in we will be contacting all of them personally to thank
them for their participation. It is impressive that the pool of
quality riders we have in Great Britain can produce such a large
number of applicants of the World Class calibre we are seeking."
"I
must also pay tribute to the BD, BE and BSJA accredited trainers
who were asked to act as referees and have been so enthusiastic
about taking part, they have welcomed this new process of identifying
young talent. The time and effort they devoted to assessing these
young riders and the quality of the references have provided a vital
first line in the process of identifying each applicant's ability
and aptitude."
"Several
of the trainers have noticed that the process of applying has served
to focus riders on their riding and career aspirations. It is my
hope that the process will prove to be valuable for all aspiring
young riders, whether or not their application is successful, by
encouraging them to concentrate on key areas such as defining clear
goals, considering sport versus career prospects, horse power and
identifying clear progression in training and competition."
The
final selection trials will take place in January at Addington (Dressage
20-21, Show Jumping 27-28, Eventing 29-30) and Hartpury (Paralympic
Dressage
30-31).
