Outback/Sidelines
Equestrian Triathlon® TV Pre-Event Coverage On PBS
WELLINGTON,
FLORIDA December 18, 2003 G-STAR School of the Arts
For Motion Pictures and Television has announced that their six-minute
pre-event coverage of the Outback/Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon
will air on December 21, 2003, on The G-STAR TV Show on PBS. The
high school student-produced program is broadcast on WXEL Channel
42 (PBS) at 8:00 am on Sunday mornings and reaches 1.7 million homes.
The
fourth annual Sidelines Equestrian Triathlon will be held December
27, 2003, in the Internationale Arena at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian
Club in Wellington, Florida, with net proceeds benefiting the Make
A Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida.
Los
Angeles-based producer/director Richard Booker of Equus Productions
and PoloTV.com guided the G-STAR group of ninth grade students through
the production of the pre-event segment plus a 30-second promo spot
leading up to the December 21 show, and a presentation video for
the Make A Wish Foundation. PBS has been airing the 30-second Triathlon
promo spot as a Public Service Announcement since early December.
Representatives of the Make A Wish Foundation have used the three-minute
presentation video in their work to promote the charity and the
Triathlon.
The
pre-Triathlon show on December 21 features G-STAR student interviews
with Samantha Charles, publisher of Sidelines magazine and founder
of the Triathlon, and Shawna Harding, a dressage rider who will
be competing in the Triathlon for the first time. In production
the students cut their interview tapes with video from past Triathlons
to create the six-minute segment.
For
the final Triathlon project that will air on The G-STAR TV Show
on PBS, a team from the school will videotape the competition on
December 27 with up to three different cameras and conduct interviews
with participants. Then well edit that together and
that will go on to their new series of shows in January, concluded
Booker.
Richard
Booker was the perfect choice as a leader for the project. His video
and TV credentials range from Janet Jackson to the 1996 Olympic
Equestrian home videos. He also produced and directed the 1998 Federation
of International Polo Championships, as well as two US Open Championships.
G-STAR students used footage from Bookers collection of polo,
dressage, and show jumping tapes to create segments of their Triathlon
30-second promo spot.
