EQUESTRIAN FESTIVAL
Ward at the Top of his Game
WELLINGTON, FL -- JANUARY 27 - '98 AGA Rider of
the Year, McLain Ward of Brewster, NY was once again in the winner's circle at
The Nutrena Open Jumper Classic course built by '84 Olympic Gold Medalist,
Conrad Homfeld. From a field of 40 competitors, Ward advanced to the jump-off
with his bay gelding, All Saints and crossed the timers in 34.87. Olympian,
Markus Beerbaum of Germany has returned to Florida to compete in the Cosequin
Winter Equestrian Festival and is giving everyone a run for the money. Beerbaum
turned in double clear rounds and the second fastest time of 36.74 aboard the
German bred, Leena. Beerbaum and Ward both had two mounts place in today's
event and will both be competing in tomorrow's Grand Prix.
Show jumping action continues on Sunday at the
Cosequin Winter Equestrian Festival with the $35,000 FARR LEGACY GRAND PRIX OF
PALM BEACH at 2:00 PM. Other top athletes to watch include '96 Olympic Team
silver medallist, Leslie Howard and along with Six Time Budweiser Rider of the
Year/2000 Olympian, Margie Engle, of Wellington.
Tickets are available at the gate: $6 for adults,
$4 for students and seniors, children under 12 admitted free.
