FEI/PSI WORLD CHALLENGE
FINAL
The FEI is happy to announce that an FEI/PSI WORLD CHALLENGE FINAL will be
organised both in Jumping and Dressage. These Finals will take place from 6 to
8 July 2001 in Hagen, Germany. The riders will be invited based on their 2000
results.
Jumping Riders invited to the Final:
The winner and the 2nd best-placed rider from Category A in each regional group
will be invited (total 16 riders).
Dressage Riders invited to the Final:
The winner of Prix St. Georges Class in each Group will be invited. If no Prix
St. Georges level in a Group, the winner of the Advanced Class will be invited
(total 9 riders).
The riders will be invited individually through their National Federation.

A tough battle for the Göteborg tickets
After the cancellation of the CSI-W Oviedo the CSI-W 's-Hertogenbosch has
become the last qualifying event in the Western European League of the FEI
World Cup Jumping. After Dortmund, which was the 11th competition of the
series, eleven riders have 41 points and more and should, under normal
circumstances, have enough point to be qualified for the Final 12-16 April 2001
in Göteborg.
There are, in the Western European point standings, 15 riders with between 39
and 26 points, placed 12th to 26th in the standings after Dortmund. Not less
than 14 of these 15 riders are entered in 's-Hertogenbosch and they will battle
for the remaining 7 places.

FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING
The Finance Committee met in Lausanne (SUI) on 13 March for its regular Spring
meeting. It reviewed the accounts for the year 2000 and received the audit
report from the FEI's auditors, Price Waterhouse Coopers. It recommended that
the FEI Bureau and the General Assembly approve the financial statements for
the year 2000.
The Committee also reviewed the budget for the current year. It took note of
the spreading Foot and Mouth Disease situation in Europe and its possible
impact on equestrian events and, indirectly, on the FEI's finances.
Finally, the Committee agreed to the finalised proposal, to be submitted to the
General Assembly, which concerns a revised structure of the annual dues,
including a substantial reduction for the FEI's member federations with limited
financial resources.
STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING
The FEI Strategic Planning Committee met in Geneva on the 15th of March. The
progress of the Strategic Plan was reviewed and the Committee were very pleased
with the progress to date. The majority of actions suggested by the plan are
underway and on time.
The IEOA Strategic plan was reviewed and a report will be forwarded to the
Executive Board.
The Committee discussed various jumping issues such as the Sponsor Team
competitions, the Nations Cup Super League and the World Cup. The SPC will have
further discussions on these topics with the Jumping Committee and at its next
meeting.
FEI WORLD CUP -JOS LANSINK CHANGES NATIONALITY
Since 1986 Jos Lansink has competed in four Olympic Games, four World and six
European Championships, as well as in over 70 Nations Cups and 110 World Cup
competitions for his country of birth, the Netherlands. By February 2001 he
changed his nationality to Belgium.
Article 650.16 of the World Cup Rules states:
The World Cup is a series, and is as such a unity with respect to the
nationality of rider. In principle a rider should end his League with the same
nationality with which he started. No exception can be granted unless the
proposed change of nationality neither affords an advantage to the rider in
question, nor places another rider at a disadvantage.
Since in the Western European League of the Jumping World Cup there is no limit
on the number of Finalists from a country (as is the case in the Dressage World
Cup) the above does not apply to Jos Lansink's change of nationality. The
exception was thus granted.
EVENTING COMMITTEE MEETING IN LEXINGTON (USA)
The Eventing Committee Meeting, due to take place in Badminton (GBR) will be
organised on 30 April and 1st May in Lexington (USA) after the CCI****.
The Open Forum that should have been held in Badminton is cancelled. However,
there will be a Forum in Great Britain later this year, at a date to be
confirmed.
SEMINARS IN PALM BEACH (USA)
In cooperation with the American Horse Show Association (AHSA), seminars for
experienced international judges and course designers, as well as a seminar for
the course directors were held in West Palm Beach from 26 to 28 February. In
all, approximately 75 persons participated. Represented were most of the
National Federations of South and Central America as well as the Caribbean
Islands, plus Mexico, USA, Canada and even Europe.
This was the first occasion for such seminars to take place outside Europe. All
present considered them to be a great success and recommended that they be
continued on a regular basis.
IN MEMORIAM
Philip Smith, an active Jumping rider from South Africa, died on 14 March
following a motor accident. He was 54 years old.
Philip Smith became a member of the South African Jumping team in 1972. But the
African Horse Sickness and apartheid prevented an international career and he
spent a large part of his life competing in South Africa and won the South
African Championship in 1984. He was selected a member of the South African
Jumping Team for the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague (NED). In 1985,
he was the winner of Category A of the FEI Jumping International Competition
(now called Challenge).
The "Silver Camera" for the Best Equestrian Photo of
the Year 2000/2001
The CHIO Aachen, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and the
Sparkasse announce the contest "Best Equestrian photo of the Year"
for which the award is presented on the occasion of CHIO Aachen from 23 to 17
June 2001.
A jury of experts will determine the winner and present the prizes. The contest
is open to professional photographers only. Closing date for participation: 15
May 2001

CORRECTION TO FEI PRESS NEWS 6/01: DRIVING THINK TANK IDEAS TESTED IN AACHEN
Freestyle to Music will not replace Compulsory Dressage Competition but be
organised as an additional competition not counting for the overall
classification.
On a trial basis, the new ideas for the four-in-hand drivers will be tested at
CHIO Aachen from 12 to 17 June 2001 The Driving working group called the
"Think-Tank", was created in 2000 to consider the future of the
driving discipline and to develop proposals to render it more attractive. Its
report was presented at World Four-in-Hand Driving Championships 2000.
