Indio Grand Prix Riders to Sign Autographs at Indio Desert Circuit, Sunday, March 11, Following the $150,000 Ford Grand Prix

INDIO, CA (March 9, 2001)--Following the $150,000 Ford Grand Prix on Sunday, March 11, a Grand Prix Riders Autograph Signing Session will be held in the Grand Prix ring at HITS Desert Horse Park in Indio, California. The Grand Prix starts at 2:15pm and will conclude at approximately 4:00pm. After the winner and placings in the Grand Prix are announced and awards presented, the riders will take their victory lap, then dismount and return to the ring to sign autographs. Tables and chairs will be set up at the floral island near the in-gate and the Official Indio Desert Circuit Show Programs, Posters, and Calendars will be available for the riders to sign. Fans can also pose for photos with the riders.

Sunday is also the Indio Desert Circuit's first annual Fiesta Day from 11am until 1pm. Fiesta Day, a celebration of Hispanic culture, is presented by Avis, Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley, City of Indio, El Informador del Valle, Indio International Tamale Festival, KUNA TV, La Quinta Awards, and Valley Meat Markets. Visitors to HITS Desert Horse Park will be treated to a salsa contest, strolling mariachis, a KUNA Radio Remote, piñata games, charro and escaramuza Mexican rodeo exhibitions, singer Pobedy Montes, pony rides, and a bouncy house plus educational activities and career information. A newly published bi-lingual pamphlet called "Careers in the Horse Industry" ("Las Carreras en la Industria de Caballos") will be distributed.

Following the Fiesta Day activities, the finale of the Indio Desert Circuit will take place in the Grand Prix field--the $150,000 Ford Grand Prix of the Desert. This is the last West Coast qualifying event for the F.E.I. World Cup of Show Jumping. Points earned in this class determine which three riders from the West Coast League will compete in the World Cup Final in Goteborg, Sweden, April 12-16.

This is the closing weekend of the six-week Indio Desert Circuit Horse Show. General admission on Saturday or Sunday is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are always admitted at no charge. Parking is free at the new parking lot on the show grounds. The Indio Chamber of Commerce will provide volunteers as ticket takers on March 11 and will receive a percentage of the total ticket proceeds from the six-week horse show.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-10 to the Monroe Street exit in Indio. Go south approximately five miles to Avenue 52. Turn right onto Avenue 52. Horse Show entrance is ½ mile on right.
