ATLANTA, GA(March 6, 2002)The MBNA Foxhall Cup, the National Championship of Eventing, will host the Foxhall Grand Prix Invitational on April 19 and 21, 2002. The dressage competition, featuring Olympic-level athletes, will take place in conjunction with the Foxhall Cup at Foxhall Farms, a 1,200-acre facility outside of Atlanta. Athletes will compete amidst the beauty of the inaugural Foxhall Flower Show, held on the polo field at Foxhall Farms. The Grand Prix test will be on Saturday, April 20, the day of the eventing cross country competition. The musical freestyle will be on Sunday, April 21, prior to the conclusion of the stadium jumping phase of the eventing championship. A purse of $20,000 will be awarded to the winners of these events. Last year we initiated a dressage competition at the Intermediaire level, said Jim Richards, Chairman of the MBNA Foxhall Cup. We had such great feedback from the dressage community that we decided to present this years competition at the Olympic level. Weve increased the prize money and we look forward to presenting an opportunity for people to come to Foxhall and see top competition in both eventing and dressage. The MBNA Foxhall Cup CCI*** Spring Championship opens on Thursday, April 18 with two days of the dressage phase of the competition. The exciting cross-country phase takes place on Saturday, April 20 and. the show-jumping finale on Sunday, April 21 decides the winner of the Cup with prize money over $100,000.
To add to the exhilarating spectacle of three-day eventing, this year Foxhall Events, LLC welcomes the inaugural Foxhall Flower Show presented by the Home Depot and modeled after the breathtaking Chelsea Gardens Flower Show in London. Participants in the Foxhall Flower Show can compete within a variety of categories to display gardening talents. The total prize money for the Flower Show is $100,000.
