SHOW JUMPING WORLD CUP FINAL - KURTEN 12TH IN FINAL STAGE, 16TH OVERALL

Ireland's Jessica Kurten, riding <Paavo N> made it to equal12th Place in the third and final stage of the FEI World Cup Show Jumping Final at Gothenburg Horse Show (Sweden) today, giving her a total of 28 penalties, and 16th Place overall, after all three stages had been completed.

The World Cup was won by Switzerland's Markus Fuchs, riding <Tinka's Boy> (5 penalty points), who knocked the reigning World Champion Rodrigo Pessoa (Brazil) into Second Place in a jump-off in the Third Stage. Third overall was Gt. Britain's Michael Whitaker, riding <Handel ll>, who finished with a total of 8 penalties.

Fuchs and Pessoa both finished Day Three on a total of Five Penalties, and in the Jump-Off Fuchs had no penalties and a time of 35.25, while Pessoa had 8 penalties and a time of 33.90. Pessoa had been World Champion for the previous three years (1998, 1999, 2000), while Fuchs had never taken the World Cup before. (Rodrigo Pessoa has been World Champion since 1998, and will remain so until 2002, when the title will once again be contested. He has also won the World Cup Final in 1998, 1999, and 2000. )
