horse Sponsored Ride Raises £300 for Horse Welfare

It felt like a new beginning when after the constraints of the Foot and Mouth restrictions several like minded people met at the Cattle Market in Wadebridge for a sponsored ride in aid of the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH).

Wonderfully organised by Pat Knight and her husband Malcolm and ably supported by Rose and Sally who administered the paperwork and escorted the riders, the ride covered some 20 miles through gloriously sunny countryside. The lunch break in a paddock kindly supplied by a local farmer was a huge success with Pat’s gang of helpers producing good Cornish fare for the, by then, ravenous riders.

The local ILPH Field Officer, Jeff Herrington, was there to award rosettes to all and some special awards to the younger members who had made a huge effort to win the Best Turned Out class.

Pat said, "I have really enjoyed organising this event on behalf of the ILPH who do such a good job in horse welfare. I shall certainly be doing it again next year and things by then should be back to normal and we will have several miles of forest tracks to add to the route."

Jeff Herrington added, "It’s thanks to people like Pat Knight, her friends and family and all the people who raised sponsorship money by going on the ride that enables the ILPH to continue its work in equine welfare."
