Pavarotti Prepares for 11th
International Show
Pavarotti International
Modena CSIO
7th - 10th June 2001
Luciano Pavarotti's hometown of Modena, Italy is preparing for its
11th Pavarotti International Horse Show this summer. The show, which
the Maestro himself instigated in 1990, has become one of the eagerly awaited
highlights of the show jumping season. With eleven international classes
including a Samsung Nations Cup the event is sure to attract many of the
world's leading riders, a total prize pool of over LIT 700,000,000 (approx.
£220,000) makes it one of Europe's richest shows.
Club Europa, the shows venue, is a purpose built equestrian centre
which was established in the 1980s by Luciano Pavarotti and reflects the
Maestros passion for horse sports and in particular show jumping.
Teams from Germany, Switzerland, France, Ireland, Holland, Brazil,
America and the UK have been invited to compete at the 2001 Pavarotti
International.
This years Pavarotti & Friends* concert the annual musical
extravaganza, held in aid of charity, which traditionally heralds the start of
the show, will take on Tuesday 29th May. Television scheduling has
forced the concert to move forward a week this year, but it will inevitably set
the stage for the sporting events to follow, bringing international focus to
Modena.
Previous winners of Sunday's LIT 430,000,000
(approx.£137,000) Grand Prix in which the winner receives LIT 135,000,000
(approx.£40,000) include Franke Slothaak, Nick Skelton, Lesley McNaught
and Jos Lansink.
Last year the Irish put their names on the Modena
Nations Cup** for the first time, beating strong opposition from the Dutch and
the Swiss teams in what was an exciting contest.
This year's event promises plenty of sporting action on
the beautifully prepared arena at Club Europa, Luciano Pavarotti has already
booked his seat.
* The Pavarotti & Friends Concert has played host to a dazzling
array stars, including George Michael, Ricky Martin, Eric Clapton, Sting,
Boyzone and the Spice Girls to name just a few. This year's line-up includes
Barry White and Tom Jones.
** Four riders will represent
each country in this year's Nations Cup.
