LENNON WINS MODENA GRAND PRIX
In a remarkable double, two Irish riders have now
won major European Grands Prix within the last 48 hours. Dermott Lennon from
Co. Down this afternoon (Sunday) completed the double when he snatched the
prestigious Modena Grand Prix held at the Pavarotti Horse Show in Italy, and
prize money of £55,000 (35 million lira).
Two days ago, the Army Equitation School's Lt. David O'Brien won £20,000
in the Lisbon Grand Prix with his First Place.
Lennon was riding the Irish-bred <Liscalgot>, and came home with a double
clear, beating the hotly-tipped German rider Markus Merschformann by
fractions of a second.
