Tahoe Kids Day, July 8, 10am-1pm, at HITS Tahoe Horse Show-Free for Kids: Pony Rides, Bouncy House, Carnival Games, Balloons

MINDEN, NV (July 2, 2001)-"Resort Sports Network Kids Day presented by the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department and the Douglas County Library" will take place from 10am to 1pm on Sunday, July 8, at the HITS Tahoe Horse Show Grounds in Minden, Nevada. Kids 12 and under will be admitted to the horse show grounds at no charge and all the Kids Day festivities are free including pony rides, bouncy house, carnival games, balloons, crafts, petting zoo, hay rides, face painting and lots of displays, games, and prizes. "CC" the Clown will be appearing to entertain the kids throughout the entire event. The Douglas County Library and Fire Department are hosting several educational exhibits including a DARE Care Car, Fire House, and Library Materials Displays.

"We've been working on putting this event together for three months," said Bruce Mulder of the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department. "We're planning on entertaining 1,000 kids. More than a dozen county employees are involved with the event and we're all very excited about holding Kids Day at the horse show. I encourage everybody to come out and take part in supporting the county's special events. It's also a chance to look at the show horse barns and see some of the country's finest show jumpers compete."

Linda Wilson of the Douglas County Library has planned an even bigger presentation of the Hobby Horse Races this year and has introduced hurdles to the competition. According to Ms. Wilson, this was one of the most popular games last year because every child who races receives a horse show ribbon as a prize.

A full acre of the 100-acre HITS Tahoe show grounds will be devoted to Kids Day. A refreshment stand with cold bottled water and ice cream will be located near the festivities, and on Main Street of the show grounds a full menu of food and beverages is available. Kids Day attendees can also visit Vendor Row, where more than a dozen shops offer a wide variety of equine-themed merchandise.

Resort Sports Network television crews will be on the grounds filming, Lloyd Higuera of KGVM radio will broadcast live for the entire three hours, and highlights of all the Kids Day events will be filmed for Douglas County Community Access TV.

Following the Kids Day festivities, children and their parents are invited to stay for the $50,000 EMO Grand Prix at 1pm. As part of the pre-Grand Prix festivities in the Grand Prix ring, HITS Tahoe Circuit Awards will be presented, the Douglas County Sheriff's Posse will demonstrate mounted crowd control, and the posse will also perform their color guard formation during the singing of the National Anthem. Cori Rosa of Minden, Nevada, a horse trainer and rider who operates Bay View Farms, will sing the National Anthem. More than 20 top riders are expected to compete in the Grand Prix. Following the victory lap, kids are invited to an Autograph Session with the Grand Prix riders in the Grand Prix ring. Official HITS Tahoe Posters and Programs will be available for signing. Parents are invited to bring their cameras to snap pictures of the kids with the Grand Prix riders. During the Autograph Session, spectators can walk the course and view the jumps up close.

The U.S. Pony Club Sierra Pacific Region and the Minden Rotary are the ticket-takers and parking directors for the event. These groups pre-sell tickets to the show and receive 100% of the profits, plus they receive a percentage of the gate from the horse show for their participation.

HITS Tahoe is a four-week hunter/jumper horse show circuit in its second consecutive year at the Bently Agrodynamics property on Highway 395 and Stockyard Road in Minden, Nevada, 12 miles from Lake Tahoe.
