horse Mercy Mission to Pakistan

Following recent disturbing reports from Pakistan involving racehorses at Karachi racecourse the ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses) and Brooke Hospital for Animals are making preparations for a mercy mission to help alleviate their suffering.

Says Ian Kelly, International Manager at the ILPH, "We only heard about the appalling suffering of the racehorses at Karachi racecourse late Tuesday night. Yesterday we contacted Brooke Hospital who have a large programme in Pakistan, with the result that a joint mercy mission will be going to the racecourse early next week."

Brooke Hospitalµs recently retired Chief Veterinary Officer, Colonel Anwar ul-Haq has a brief to assess the situation, buy forage, and to ensure the horses have a water supply. He will employ two of the racecourse dressers to help him with any veterinary care the horses may need. ILPH will be providing £5,000 for feed and veterinary care and the Brooke Hospital will be providing the manpower.

Adds Ian Kelly, "This is a good example of two agencies working in partnership by pooling resources to help alleviate the very real suffering of these poor racehorses."
