 MURPHY’S
EXTRAORDINARY JOKE

By Marion Edwards
(His exasperated owner)
horse

Murphy’s my youngster, he’s quite a lad,
He’s dealt me some problems - just a tad.
So Kelly said “ Come on down, We’ll help you out,
While we’re in town”

I worried and fretted about his antics,
I got myself all uptight and frantic
Would he load or muck about
Behave like an angel or a lout?

Temper tantrums, rearing, barging
Anxious, stressfull, pulling, charging
These are some of Murphy’s tricks
Could Kelly Marks get these things licked?

We got ourselves prepared and ready
We set off to Woodspring, nice and steady
The journey was good, the longest he’s been
A new location – he hadn’t yet seen.

Parked up, unloaded, eyes on stalks
Led him around for a short walk,
He was so good and perfectly calm
Took it all in without a qualm.

Took him over to the stables
No.12 his was labelled
It’s dark and strange – “He won’t go in there!”
He walks straight in without a care!!

“I don’t dare leave him – he’ll rear and panic”
You know when he’s stressed he gets quite manic.
I needn’t have worried, he seemed content
Watching activities and different events.

Later he goes to meet Kelly’s team
They think he’s cute - AND SO SERENE!!
Join up is perfect – he is an old hand
We’ve done that before, but not on this sand.

Nicole gets on and rides him around
“He may well rear, don’t hit the ground!”
Murphy just walks round the pen
Acting like he’s over Ten!

So what’s the problem they ask , of course
He’s been so good – A Perfect Horse!
“Well” says I “this is quite rare”
“Other days he’s like a stroppy mare!”

We came to solve a loading prob.
We need some help to make a good job
He’ll walk right in then run straight out
We need this habit turned about.

Having said that – today was fine
He loaded straight up – surprise was mine
But this is typical Murphy style
He’ll let you relax – just for a while.

Another place, another day
We’ll try to load to go and play
We’ll do the pressure halter bit
But Murph will say “NO!” and have a fit

Kelly says” Well he’s been so steady,
We’ll use him tonight when everyone’s ready”
Nicole can ride him and she will try
To show the audience how NOT to ride!

Well Murph was an angel it has to be said
As Nicole bounced and shoved – he could well have fled
But No, he’s no problem, he just did his bit
I’m proud of my youngster I have to admit!

So there you have it – what a lark
When Murphy went to see Kelly Marks
For her to sort out all our niggles
And Murphy just went along for a Giggle !!
