The Ride
7th - 21st of October 2001
The Ride
Unless you have
been to India and ridden in this vast and majestic land you could never fully
appreciate the quality of the experience that joining this ride will bring to
you life. No second class Hotels or surly service here, here you will enjoy the
opulence and graceful service of a bygone age. |
|
No tired and weary horses unhappily treading the
same well trod trail, but sleek well groomed horses with a groom apiece that
enjoy every days ride. In Iinder Jit Singh you will have the supreme guide, an
expert on the region, of the land, it's people, their colourful majestic, noble
and sometimes warlike history. Co-leading the ride John is a true Kilt wearing
Scotsman who loves the outdoor life and anything with a touch of adventure. His
35 years experience of training horses and riders adds to the ride and makes
for some interesting story telling at the end of the day.
The Pink City.
Jaipur is the home of Indian polo during the days
the English and the Maharajas played it from the 20's to the 50's. The famous
Polo Bar is an apt watering hole, situated in the Rambagh Palace once home of
the Rulers of Jaipur.
The Pink city of Jaipur once
capital of a state of the same name sent it's own army to fight in world war 1
for the British Crown. It is both the capital of Rajastan and the hub of your
riding and polo activities. It is also the home of the famous 61st Cavalry once
known as the the Jodhpur Lancers which fought under Allenby in Palestine and
made a successful cavalry charge to take the previously impregnable Turkish
cannon positions after an oath unto death. Still celebrated by the regiment
every 23rd of September as "Haifa Day". |
|
Jaipur is a city where you can take in the very
essence of India, yet it has it's own particular culture and an amazing mix of
modern facilities married with vestiges of old world, which bring a little
grace and good service. Those who love shopping can get involved in the hustle
and bustle of going into town to buy anything from tie-dyed clothing to a camel
and the jewelry is quite affordable and truly beautiful.

India will mesmerise
you.
A mysterious country of contrasts, which has
managed to retained much of it's old-fashioned grandeur, India has a charming
way of leaving those who visit her with warm lasting memories that will stay
with you for the rest of your life.
